A Summer to Remember was another sweet prequel in this series! This time, we're following Lauren, the jilted bride from One Night For Love. Lauren has decided that she wants to be free from her family's and society's expectations. She doesn't want to marry; she just wants to live her life, alone, her way. Then she meets Kit, an infamous rake. He's been disowned by his family, but following his brother's death he's now the heir and being invited back. He needs a respectable bride, or the face of one, to fully rewin his family's approval and he has his sights set on Lauren.

A Summer to Remember is a fake relationship turned real and I absolutely adored it! I was a bit nervous at the beginning, because Kit's friends bet him that he won't be able to get Lauren to marry him by the end of the month. Bet plots normally don't work out too well for me, but this wasn't a bet plot. Kit caves and tells Lauren the truth right off the bat, which prompts her to come up with her own plan. She'll pose as his fiance to help him with his family, if he'll help her have some fun before she goes off to live her quiet life of solitude. Obviously, he agrees and he certainly gives the prim and proper lady a summer full of adventure!

I loved seeing Kit and Lauren together! In the first book, she was very stiff and you could tell that being left at the alter hurt her more than she let on. She tells Kit things she's never said out loud before and it really let us get to know her and why she is the way she is. And he pushes her to do things outside of her comfort zone, but nothing too outrageous. She is a lady after all! Kit also shares very personal bits with her, so it's easy to see how they fell for each for real. I especially liked the glimpses into his relationship with his brother. I really wish Syd had gotten his own book.

I just really enjoyed A Summer to Remember. Kit and Lauren were wonderful for each other! Their summer was filled with fun and passion and emotion! This was also a great introduction to the Bedwyn siblings who will be the focus of the main series. I'm particularly interested in getting more of Frejay. She's pretty awful, and I'm curious about the man who can match her!

A Summer to Remember A Bedwyn Family Novel Get Connected Romances Mary Balogh 9780440236634 Books Reviews

Wow! Loved this book. I obviously didn't like Lauren from her role in One Night for Love (where she was jilted at the altar when Neville's supposedly dead wife came back to life) and also because of Freyia in Slightly Scandalous (she was the perfect bride Kit brought home when he was supposed to marry Freyia). But turns out she is such an adorable Heroine. A true lady, a true companion and the best match for our beloved Christopher (Kit).

The Bedwyn brothers are shown quite arrogant and full os schemes, but as I've already read the whole saga I could understand their point of view.

I love how Lauren, and Freyia, and Kit, and even Rannulf are shown in this books as all real people are, not totally good or bad. They have depths that make the stories so very wonderful.

Mary Balogh's stories are all wonderful...
This story takes off right after the happily ever after between Lily and Neville Wyatt Earl of Kilbourne, in the book One Night For Love. The Honorable Miss Lauren Edgeworth is the woman left heartbroken by Neville whom she loved since she was a young girl. Lauren and Neville were supposed to marry but couldn't due to unforeseen events in Neville's life. Lauren is broken hearted and decides she would never marry.

Christopher "Kit" Butler, Viscount Ravensberg, as the new heir to the Earl of Redfield informed his friends that he would be looking for a wife this season. He explained he was returning to society in order to choose his own bride to thwart his father who was going to announce Kit's betrothal to his late brother's betrothed without asking Kit. Kit asked his friends who the available ladies were this season. A few names were suggested and eventually Miss Edgeworth's name was brought up. They told him the story of her broken engagement and that she was a very straitlaced and boring lady. Kit likes a challenge and then waged that he would be married to her in 6 weeks. Kit decides he wants to meet Lauren and ascertains she will be at an upcoming ball. He asks the hostess of the ball to introduce him to her.

Lauren recognized Kit after witnessing him in Hyde Park fighting without a shirt on, against 3 brawny fellows. When the fight ended, Kit swept a milkmaid in his arms and kissed her. He remember looking up then and seeing Lauren look at him with repulsion. Kit asked Lauren to dance but her family reacted so negatively to him, that she felt some rebellion and agreed to the waltz. After several other interludes over the next few days, Kit proposed to Lauren. She turned him down, but she offered to pretend she was betrothed to him if he would show her some adventures.
