'Musings at Death's Door an ancient bicultural Asian-Australian ponders about Australian society'. This book (my sixth) sets out my considered conclusions fearlessly but fairly. It lays into the subservience and incompetence of our politicians, the sham of democracy as we experience it, the racket of asylum seeking, the professional ethnic, and the progressive breakdown of family, in the main. In contrast, I extol the egalitarianism of Australian society (a beacon to our neighbours), the incredibly successful integration of our diverse ethno-cultural communities, and the nation's maturation into a modern, cosmopolitan and tolerant polity. I then suggest that we join the USA, the benefits being undeniable; and an evaluation of our national icons to recognise the contributions of immigrants.

Raja writes in detail about his experiences and opinions of culture from his upbringing in British Malaya under Japanese occupation to his experiences of entry into Australia society when there was still the left-overs of the White Australia Policy. HIs views are insightful in that he looks at multiculturalism and racism from the point of view of someone who has been affected by both the overt and the subversive processes. He discusses the boat people issues and then goes on to spiritualism. It is a broad ranging book full of interesting aspects to Raja's life. You may not necessarily agree with his point of view at all times, but the clear and concise arguments he uses from both academic and personal perspective are worth reading and understanding.
It is worth stating that I am a friend of Raja and have had long conversations about some of the topics he discusses in his book. If you are willing to take time to gain insight into the views of an independent thinker with years of experience as a public servant in the immigration arena, a man with a spiritual bent that is the culmination of many years of searching, than this is a worthwhile investment of your time.
